RIFT's Ashes of History event has finally started. Guardians and Defiants are on their ways to opening up something new in Telara with this event, but before that happens, the two factions must jump through a few hoops.
The event is divided into three phases. The first phase, The Song of Karine, is the start of the player's pursuit to collect Magma Opals through the completion of dailies and the defeat of earth and fire planar enemies. After completing the story quest associated with the event, a number of dailies open up in either Sanctum or Meridian. The story quest, called The Travel Stone, can be picked up in the player's capital city as well.
Guardians
Guardian gamers need to speak to Fradumir in Tavril Plaza. He has a purple explanation point above his head for The Travel Stones quest. This quest will open up the Ashes of History dailies after it is completed.
Guardian's Travel Stone
As a Guardian, you will need to locate the blue travel stone right outside of Sanctum. The easiest way to get there is to jump off of the right side of the bridge that leads out of Sanctum. Land in the water, and head to the shore away from the city. Veer right and you should see a large blue crystal surrounded by ruins. Click on the blue crystal and wait for the first bard to finish her speech. You might not be able to click the stone if other players are around. This is because another player has already clicked it and the story is already being told. Be patient, it will count for you when it's finished. Make sure that your quest log indicates to return to Fradumir before leaving.
Upon returning to Sanctum, speak to Fradumir and take your 25 Magma Opals and 4950 experience (level 50) for completing the quest. Four repeatable event quests should appear on your minimap from four different NPCs. All four are located near Fradumir in the general event area in Sanctum. Only one of the four quests is unique to the Guardians. The three remaining quest are identical between Guardians and Defiants, and are detailed after the Defiant section.
Calling out the Cadence
Nitisko, who is located right in front of the staircase mailbox, offers this quest. He gives you a Harmonic Stone to activate. After using it, the player must decipher the music of the travel stones located just behind the gazebo. This gazebo is right behind Nitisko. To decipher the music the player must activate each ruin in a certain order. The image below displays the correct order. Be sure to note where the player is standing in the image to line up the stones correctly to the image. The player is actually facing the Sanctum exit in this image. If your chat log reads "You fail to decipher the musical code," then something went wrong. Just start over from the first stone and click carefully.
Guardian's Calling out the Cadence solution
Return to Nitisko for 25 Magma Opals and 4950 experience at level 50. Continue to the Shared Dailies section for the rest of the dailies offered to Guardians.
Defiants
Defiant players can begin their Ashes of History journey by talking to Sophasa the Farseeing. She is located in the Training Yard to the right of the large staircase that leads into Meridian. This is where the event vendors and event dailies are positioned as well. Sophasa will offer The Travel Stones quest which will open up the event dailies.
Pick up The Travel Stones quest from her and head out of Meridian. This quest requires that you listen to the first bard's tale at the blue travel stone. The blue travel stone is located to the southeast of Meridian. Just walk down the main Meridian stairs and turn right. It is a short jaunt to a line of torches that leads up to the stone. Click the stone to hear the bard's story, wait for your quest log to prompt you to return to Sophasa, and then make your way back to her. You might not be able to click the stone if other players are around. This is because another player has already clicked it and the story is already being told. Be patient, it will count for you when it's finished.
Defiant Travel Stone
After turning in The Travel Stones quest, four new, repeatable quests will open up related to the event. All the quest givers are located around Sophasa in the normal event area in Meridian and should not be difficult to find. Like the Guardians, only one quest is unique to the Defiants while the remaining three are detailed below.
Calling out the Cadence
Aposidis Draxxus, who is just cattycorner from Sophasa, offers this quest to Defiants. He gives the player a Harmonic Stone that the player must activate. Then, the player must decipher the code of the travel stone located next to Aposidis. See the image below to correctly activate the stones in the specific order. Click the stones in that order and your quest log should prompt you to return to Aposidis. If your chat log reads "You fail to decipher the musical code," then something went wrong. Simply start over from the first stone and go in order to complete.
Defiant's Calling out the Cadence solution
Return to Aposidis for 25 Magma Opals and 4950 experience for a level 50s.
Shared Dailies
The rest of the quests are identical between Guardians and Defiants. Be aware that a number of quests are listed but only three will be available each day. The questgivers will be in Tavril Plaza or the Training Yard near Fradumir for Guardians or near Sophasa for the Defiants.
Dust
Collect Travel Stone Dust from rift creatures that would grant experience 0/15
Kill rift creatures that grant experience and loot Travel Stone Dust from their bodies to complete this quest. This requires you to tag the enemy first before another player that's not in your group or raid does. This also means you must beat those of the opposite faction. Collect 15 to complete the quest and return to your questgiver for 25 Magma Opals and experience.
Rift Closed
Close rifts that would grant experience 0/2
For this quest, players must close two rifts that offer experience. The two rifts closed do not need to be from any particular plane. Just make sure the enemies from the rift are at least green to your level (43+ for level 50s).
Have at Thee, Fiend
Kill rift creatures that would grant experience 0/15
This quest requires a player to kill any rift creature that would offer experience. Get rid of 15 creatures from any rift, no matter what plane they are from, to complete the quest. 25 Magma Opals is your reward alongside some experience.
Reappropriation
Collect Travel Stone Fragments from Earth and Fire rifts that would grant experience 0/5
Travel Stone Fragments
For this quest, you must shut down earth and fire rifts that offer experience. Travel Stone Fragments will show up in the rift loot once you have shut an appropriate rift. Major rifts always drop one while minor rifts seemed to be inconsistent in dropping the Fragments. This might be because there are so many shutting the minor rifts so particular groups end up not getting credit, or it could be because minor rifts are not guaranteed to give you the Fragments.
Collect 5 of the Travel Stone Fragments to complete the quest. You'll get 25 Magma Opals and some experience for your trouble.
Shoring up the Wardstones
Bless or upgrade a wardstone 0/1
Simply bless or upgrade a wardstone that is near your level for credit. Of course, level 50s will need to travel to Stillmoor or Shimmersand to complete this quest. Another 25 Magma Opals and experience will be waiting for you in Sanctum or Meridian.
Fragmenting the Alliance
Close Fire or Earth rifts that grant experience 0/2
Like the Rift Closed quest, this quest requires the player to close two rifts. However, unlike Rift Closed, you must close two rifts from either the fire or earth planes to complete the quest. 25 Magma Opals and some experience will be your reward.
That is it for the Phase 1 dailies for the Ashes of History event. Do these each day and you'll be on your way to collecting enough Magma Opals for you and all your alts.
