RIFT 1.5 Ashes of History - Meridian Chronicle Walkthrough
Author: Michael G. Hurston in MMOSite
Rift 1.5, Ashes of History, kicked off yesterday with many players being rewarded with costume gear and bonus potions in their mailbox. In additional the game introduced character advancement for level 50's through Planar Attunement and the new story driven Chronicle encounters. Chronicles are solo and duo story driven dungeons based on existing raid content, such as Greenscale's Blight and Hammerknell, with more on the way, though the initial Meridian adventure is a solo-able introduction of what is to come.
My first step back into the game, after dawning my new costume gear, was to look into this Planar Attunement goodness. Upon following the on-screen tutorial prompts I began the first Chronicle, Meridian, and was transported to my own private Meridian map, where everyone was excited to see me.

Every NPC in town had something nice to tell me, mentioning that I'm more than just a typical Ascended hero. Cheers and clapping filled my speakers and my wife, who was watching TV at the time, couldn't help but come over and ask, "What the hell is going on?" and I replied, "It's my party."

Rahn Chuluun asked me to follow him and he took off down the pathway ahead of me. I followed, but stopped to chat with each of the NPC's along the way, who all bowed graciously and complimented my talents.

All the key members of the Defiant Ascended were in attendance, and it was great to have Asha Catari, High General of the Defiant, tell me "Today, we recognize that you are a Defiant of the highest order. No one can call themselves your superior." I never had Lady Sylvanas tell me that before! Even after I helped save her precious Undercity from the Lich King!

A little more talking, and smoke up my tail pipe, I approached Slyver's machine and became Attuned. Of course, with this good a time, some jerk always has to come and ruin things. Enter Kain and his minions, who complained about a lack of an invitation and then tried to ruin my party.

The health of these minions seemed a lot higher than typical non-elites, but I made quick work of them as I saved each one of the Defiant leaders and headed out to the court yard. Apparently, even the Faceless Man needs help from non-elites.

After saving each Defiant leader, we regrouped at the stairway leading to the courtyard before heading out to face the legions attacking the city.

Giants, werewolves and soldiers, Oh My! They were all swarming around the courtyard. Of course they stood little chance against the mighty force of Moystmufin. I slaughtered these monsters and moved towards Kain and his guard, who remarkably were gracious enough to fight me one at a time.

With Kain's minions defeated, the Defiant leaders and myself engaged Kain. Though his attacks were basic, he would resurrect one of his servants from time to time. Eventually he was defeated, but arose again to summon a creature known as Shadavarian. A massive, spider-like, monster.

Shadavarian had some basic swipe attacks, coupled with a knock-back, all that delt little damage. The only attack of his I had to really watch out for was when it would emit a purple cloud below him that did a lot of damage. I found the purple cloud would follow me, so I decided to keep moving in a circular motion around him to avoid the cloud and continue to melee him. This proved to be a good tactic against him and he quickly collapsed before me.

After defeating Shadavarian, and running Kain out of the city, each of the Defiant leaders applauded me and bowed. "You have proven yourself time and time again to be invaluable to our people. Meridian would be lost without you.", Pronounced Asha Catari.

Of course we had to get the party back on track, but before doing so I was given a nice gold chest filled some goodies for my next adventure. Once I had my new items in hand it was time to turn back around, greet the people and dig in to the feast before me.
