RIFT Karthan Ridge Guide

Karthan Ridge is a new warfront that was introduced with Storm Legion. In this map, your goal is essentially to destroy your opponent's base before they destroy yours. The best way to relate it to something similar is to say it's like reverse-CTF, in a sense.

First off, let's take a look at the map.

In this map, the center is where the bombs are located, and each side's colored objectives represent their base items - each of which is a cannon.

How to Win

As you'll notice, each side has a total of three objectives. Each of these are cannons. Looking at the scores, you'll also see that they are based on an "X/3" goal. To get credit for this, simply pick up one of the bombs, run it to the opponent’s cannon, and right-click the cannon to plant the bomb, blowing it up. The goal here is to take down all three.

How Bombs Work

The bombs for this map are just like vessels, the Fang, etc. from other maps. Just pick them up, and you'll be in control over them. At the same time, however, your location will be broadcast across the entire map, allowing the enemies to easily see your location and work towards circumventing you before you can blow up their objectives.

If a player carrying a bomb is killed before they can utilize it, they will drop it. At this point, players from either team can pick it up. They do not reset when dropped.

Strategy

The strategy here is based on a few different jobs there are for this map. Keep in mind that the goal is to accomplish objectives, rather than just go around killing players. As such, there are jobs that make completing this battle much easier.

Beginning

At the very beginning of the match, everyone from both sides will be rushing towards the middle of the map. There are two bombs that spawn, and it is possible for one team to grab both of them. To keep this from being your enemy, throw out AoE's as much as possible on to both of the bombs, while your teammates attempt to pick them up. If you've played The Black Garden a lot, this should be familiar as it's the same strategy used to keep people from getting the Fang there, only with two objectives being covered instead of one.

Planting Bombs

With bombs in hand, it's as important to watch your enemies as it is to watch yourself. Since you are running them into your enemy's territory, you will need to move quickly and efficiently and your primary focus should always be on planting the bomb, rather than getting kills.

In a majority of battles, people will get so caught up with fighting that you can place bombs without any real problems. Travel with your team and let them focus on the killing while you attempt to bomb objectives. The only time you should change your priority is if you're already on the objective and someone is focusing all of their attacks on you (and this is only because it takes a little bit of time to get bombs planted). Past this, that is the job of your team.

The Distraction

If you're not the carrier, you will want to try and lure players away from your carrier. This is done by getting people into combat with you prior to your runner going past you, and it takes advantage of the fact that a lot of players like to focus on one target and don't really switch that often. As a result, you can tie up the enemy's players while your team does bombing.

This is especially effective if you can get three or more players on you, then lure them away from your team. While you may lose this battle, you're effectively making everything easier for the rest of your team.

The Interceptor

If you want to be on offense, taking down your enemies, you'll want to play as an interceptor. Rather than chasing players, you want to cut them off on the way to your base. This is because it gives a lot more time to catch up when your enemy takes off running. If you're just chasing, there are plenty of skills that will allow them to keep the edge.

When you intercept an enemy player that has a bomb, you want to stun them, root them, or otherwise snare them. This accomplishes two things: it slows down their pathing and it gives more time for your allies to catch up and assist you. While you may be able to take down the player solo, it doesn't always mean that you'll have enough time to grab the bomb before someone starts attacking you. Having other allies around helps increase the chances that you can.

Things Not to Do

  • Don't grab the bomb and run straight into enemy players. Remember that if you die, you'll drop the bomb, and if you're in a group of enemies the chances are great that they will just pick it up and work their way to your base
  • Don't allow players to plant bombs. Even if you're in a fight with someone, toss attacks at whoever is planting. The kills themselves are not as important as the taking and protecting of objectives
  • Don't run further into your base to die and drop the bomb if you happen to be dying. While it does put the player(s) closer to your spawn, it also decreases the amount of time it takes for them to take out one of your cannons
